Thursday MLB: Atlanta Braves (55-53) at Los Angeles Dodgers (66-42)
The Atlanta Braves are hanging around the fringe of the NL East and wild-card races. Atlanta won the final two games of a trip to San Diego, pounding out 31 hits in those two games.
The Braves got a boost from new first baseman Adam LaRoche, as he had six hits in the three-game series against the Padres, making him 9-for-18 with a homer and three walks in five games since being acquired from the Boston Red Sox on Friday.
His homer Monday made him the fourth player in the past 10 seasons to hit a homer for three teams, including at least one from each league. For the season, he has hit .260 with 14 homers and 45 RBIs in 98 games for Pittsburgh, Boston and the Braves. He is batting .378 with five doubles and two homers in his past 13 games, while playing for three teams in that stretch.
Atlanta is a +125 underdog on WagerWeb.com tonight against the Dodgers in the return of pitcher Derek Lowe (11-7, 4.21) to Los Angeles.

After spending the past four seasons in Dodger blue, Lowe threw six innings and allowed three runs on five hits against the Dodgers in his most recent start. It was the only game of a three-game series against the Dodgers that the Braves won.
In 66 career starts at Dodger Stadium, Lowe is 33-23 with a 3.21 ERA. The right-hander was a three-time opening day starter for the Dodgers and won 14 games last season to help them reach the NLCS.
The Dodgers are slumping, having dropped seven of 11, scoring 36 runs while batting .379 in the four wins but plating 18 runs while hitting .269 in the losses.
They turn to lefty Randy Wolf (5-6, 3.47), who was on the mound opposite Lowe last week. He allowed four runs and nine hits with seven strikeouts in six innings to take the loss, snapping a string of six straight quality starts. He is 4-12 lifetime against the Braves and 0-5 since 2004, yet L.A. is a -133 betting favorite on WagerWeb.com.
