Joe Wilson apologizes, Obama says “We all make mistakes”

10 September 2009 No Comment

President Obama today accepted Rep. Joe Wilson’s mea culpa for his shoutout during last night’s speech.

“We all make mistakes,” said Obama. “He apologized quickly and without equivocation and I’m appreciative of that.” Referring to the media buzz over Wilson shouting “You lie!”, the president added: “I hope some of the fever breaks a little bit.”

After calling the White House to apologize, the South Carolina Republican held an impromptu press conference outside his office. “I’m very grateful that the White House indicated that they appreciated the call and that we needed to have a civil discussion about the health care issue, and I certainly agree with that.” But he stood by his contention that some of the bills in Congress would not prevent “illegal aliens” from getting coverage.
