A brassiere – commonly referred to as a bra – has replaced the corset as the most widely accepted method for supporting a woman’s breasts since the 19th century. The term ‘brassiere’ was first used in 1907 by Vogue magazine, since then the little gadget has morphed through the years from a practical garment to a pop culture phenomenon.

15. Miley Cyrus

Ok, keep in mind she is last on our list. The photo is pretty much nothing to talk about but this little snap made worldwide headlines as Miley started shedding her good girl image and turned… well… into the pole-dancing-licorice-sucking girl we all know and love.

I remember back in my day girls were mortified about exposing a hard nipple under their shirt, then Friends came along and hard nipples were no longer embarrassing but cool and sexy. Oh! Lil Kim… I remember watching the MTV awards (when was that? Like 1991?) and Lil Kim came strutting down the red carpet dressed in some kind of mermaid outfit with her left boob hanging out, only a seashell covering her nipple.. It blew my mind away. Then she had that moment when Diana Ross fondled her boob, it was priceless.

9. Brandi Chastain

On July 10, 1999 at the Women’s World Cup after scoring the fifth penalty kick to give the United States the win over China in the final game, Chastain celebrated by peeling off her jersey and falling to her knees in a sports bra, her fists clenched. I don’t know who was the first woman to come up with the handbra, but we should build her a monument. The handbra is now used all over the world, from porn magazines to high fashion photo shoots. If you think about it, handbras are probably the most confortable, best fitting, confy bra out there.
