Katrina Darrell starts up American Idol (video)
Season eight of singing competition “American Idol” premiered last night and, as happens, the show conjured some memorable auditions. One, however, stood out from the pack of aural hopefuls: bikini-clad Katrina Darrell. Darrell wore as little as she could — legally — to the “Idol” audition in Phoenix, AZ, and it appears that the 20-year-old model from Chino Hills, CA, is now on her way to Hollywood … But it wasn’t for her vocal talents. Shocker, right?
Darrell sang a mediocre version of “Vision of Love” wearing high heels and a string bikini that really showed off her “attributes.” The jaws of judges Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson dropped — and they voted yes — but new judge, songwriter Kara DioGuardi, offered a very vocal objection when she sang a few chords of her own to show how the song should have been handles. Not one to be upstaged, young Darrell challenged DioGuardi and, yes, the men backed her up and sent the singer off to the next round in Hollywood. Paula Abdul, meanwhile, did little more than stir the pot and squeal. Girl power!
