Danny Boyle tired of Slumdog kids demands, may take back trustfund
Director Danny Boyle has ended negotiations with the Mumbai-born children who starred in his Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire, after their families demanded more cash from their trust fund, according to reports.
Boyle reportedly went to India to meet with organizers of his Jai Ho Trust, a fund to support child stars Azharuddin Ismail and Rubina Ali, after their starring roles helped the film set box office records worldwide.
But the filmmaker left the slums of India in a tiff after requests for more money became too much. Additional requests include a car for Ismail’s relatives, and more than $60,000 for Ali’s family. Representatives for both children want health insurance benefits for their entire families.“He is tired, really tired. The demands are now skyrocketing. Danny is tired, Danny is frustrated at these demands and has left (India) for England. He is very, very upset,” trust spokesman Noshir Dadrawala told Scotland’s Daily Record this week.
“We believe that the children are being badly advised. There are properties available located in nearby suburbs. We have made many attempts to settle this but now Danny has said that if they don’t agree by January, then the money will be given to other charities.”
Last week, the children were warned that their persistent truancy would endanger their inheritance.
