Dakota Fanning could star in next Wizard of Oz
Dakota Fanning is being courted for the lead role in an upcoming sequel to The Wizard Of Oz.
The accomplished 15-year-old star is being tipped to take the lead in a follow-up to the classic 1939 film — based on L. Frank Baum’s 1900 children’s book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz — that shot then 12-year-old Judy Garland to stardom.
“It will be set in the present day and feature Dorothy’s granddaughter,” says producer Basil Iwanyk.
Co-producer Todd McFarlane adds, “You’ve still got Dorothy trapped in an odd place, but she’s much closer to the Ripley character from Alien than a helpless singing girl.”
The classic Oz already promoted on sequel with Return to Oz in 1985.
