2009 BET Awards Michael Jackson’s tribute

29 June 2009 No Comment

Michael Jackson’s family was in the house at the 2009 BET Awards. The annual award show that salutes the best in African American entertainment essentially used their entire program to pay tribute to the King of Pop. Host Jamie Foxx was the perfect choice to lead the proceedings.

Joe Jackson was in attendance standing with Reverend Al Sharpton as the two grooved to the evenings music that included many tributes to Jackson as well as performances by The O’Jays and a medley of old school classics including Guy and Bel Biv Divoe.

The BET Awards 2009 were a call to celebration in the mode of a New Orleans tribute to someone who has passed. There is much to celebrate when it comes to the life of Michael Jackson.

Janet Jackson surprised the crowd with her appearance where she said very little – but truly volumes.

As she approached the microphone, her lips quivered and she took several moments before speaking.

“My entire family wanted to be here tonight, but it was just too painful, so they elected me to speak for all of us,” she finally said.

It was incredible to see Janet, merely days after she lost her brother.

Then, Janet truly put this international mourning of Michael Jackson into perspective.

“To you, Michael is an icon, but to us Michael is family, and he will forever live in all of our hearts. On behalf of my family and myself, thank you for all of your love, and thank you for all of your support. We miss him so much. Thank you so much.”
